Best Coffee from Brazil
Share
Brazil is the largest coffee producer in the world β responsible for roughly a third of all coffee grown globally. That scale might suggest commodity-level quality, but Brazil also produces some of the finest specialty coffee available. Understanding what makes Brazilian coffee distinctive helps you find the right bag and appreciate what's in the cup.
Why Brazil Dominates Coffee Production
Brazil's geography is uniquely suited to coffee at scale. The country's vast interior plateau β the Cerrado, Minas Gerais, and SΓ£o Paulo regions β offers flat terrain that allows mechanized harvesting, consistent climate, and enormous growing capacity. Brazil produces more coffee than the next two largest producers combined.
But scale doesn't mean uniformity. Brazil's specialty coffee sector has grown significantly over the past two decades, with producers investing in quality processing, selective harvesting, and distinct regional expressions that rival the best coffees from any origin.
What Brazilian Coffee Tastes Like
Brazilian coffee is known for its low acidity, heavy body, and natural sweetness. The flavor profile typically includes:
- Nutty notes β almond, hazelnut, peanut butter
- Chocolate β milk chocolate, dark chocolate, cocoa
- Caramel and brown sugar β natural sweetness without fruit or floral complexity
- Low acidity β smooth and easy-drinking, gentle on the stomach
- Heavy body β full and substantial in the cup
Brazilian coffee doesn't have the brightness of Ethiopian or Kenyan coffee, or the earthiness of Sumatra. It's smooth, sweet, and consistent β the kind of coffee that works in any brew method and for any palate. It's a natural fit in our Smooth & Balanced and low-acid coffee collections.
Natural Processing: Brazil's Signature
Most Brazilian coffee is processed using the natural (dry) method β the whole cherry dries in the sun with the fruit intact. This process imparts sweetness and body to the bean, contributing to the characteristic chocolate and nutty notes that Brazilian coffee is known for. It's also why Brazilian coffee tends to be lower in acidity than washed coffees from other origins.
Our Brazil Santos
Brazil Santos is named after the port city through which most Brazilian coffee has historically been exported. Our Brazil Santos is a natural-process coffee from the Cerrado region β nutty, smooth, low acid, with milk chocolate and a clean, sweet finish.
It's one of the most versatile coffees we carry. It works beautifully in:
- Drip β smooth and consistent, excellent for everyday brewing
- French press β the heavy body comes through fully without a paper filter
- Espresso β Brazil Santos is a classic espresso base, used by roasters worldwide for its body and sweetness
- Cold brew β the natural sweetness and low acidity make it exceptional cold-brewed
