Guatemala doesn't ask for your attention — it commands it. Grown in the volcanic highlands of Antigua, Huehuetenango, and Acatenango, this is a coffee with immediate, unmistakable character: brown sugar sweetness, warm spice, full body, and a clean finish that keeps you reaching for another cup. Complex enough to reward the enthusiast. Approachable enough for everyone.

Why We Carry This

Guatemala sits on a chain of active volcanoes, and the rich volcanic soil — combined with high altitude, cool temperatures, and distinct wet and dry seasons — creates ideal conditions for coffee with exceptional body and complexity. The Antigua valley, surrounded by three volcanoes at 1,500 meters, produces the distinctive full body and spiced sweetness the origin is known for. Huehuetenango adds brightness and fruit complexity. Our Guatemala draws on the best of both.

Flavor Profile

  • Brown sugar sweetness — warm, natural, and prominent throughout the cup
  • Dark chocolate — rich undertone that adds depth and complexity
  • Warm spice — a subtle cinnamon or nutmeg quality that makes the cup feel substantial
  • Full body — one of the most full-bodied washed coffees in our lineup
  • Clean, warm finish — long and satisfying, no bitterness

The Process

Fully washed — the fruit is removed before drying, producing a clean cup that highlights the bean's natural sweetness and the volcanic terroir of the origin. Washed processing is standard in Guatemala and contributes to the clarity and consistency the origin is known for.

Ingredients

Single origin specialty Arabica coffee, volcanic highlands of Guatemala (Antigua, Huehuetenango, Acatenango). Washed process. Medium roast. Roasted to order. Roasted fresh in Temecula, California — in most cases the same day it ships.

Yield: ~17–24 cups per 12oz bag. Larger sizes scale proportionally.

How to Brew

French Press (Recommended) — Full body shines without a paper filter. Oils stay in the cup, body is at its most substantial. Coarse grind, 1:15 ratio, steep 4 minutes. Rich, warm, and deeply satisfying.

Drip — Reliable and consistent. Brown sugar sweetness and chocolate notes come through clearly. Medium grind, 1:15 ratio. An excellent everyday option.

Espresso — Full body and brown sugar sweetness make this a standout espresso. Rich, sweet shot with real depth. Works well straight or as the base for milk drinks.

Cold Brew — Full body and low acidity make it excellent cold-brewed. Chocolate and brown sugar notes deepen beautifully during the long steep. 1:8 ratio, steep 18–24 hours.

Best For

  • French press lovers who want a full-bodied, rich cup
  • Medium-dark character seekers who want depth without going all the way to dark roast
  • Espresso and milk drinks — body and sweetness hold up beautifully
  • Cold weather sipping — warm spice and full body make it particularly satisfying in autumn and winter

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Guatemala good for espresso?
Yes — one of our better espresso options. Full body and brown sugar sweetness produce a rich, sweet shot that works well straight or as the base for lattes and cappuccinos.

How does it compare to Colombia?
Both are washed with natural sweetness, but distinct. Colombia is brighter and more citrus-forward with a lighter body. Guatemala is fuller-bodied with more chocolate and warm spice. If you like Colombia, Guatemala is a natural next step toward more depth.

Is it good for cold brew?
Yes — the full body and low acidity make it excellent cold-brewed. The chocolate and brown sugar notes deepen beautifully during the long steep.

What makes Guatemalan coffee distinctive?
Volcanic soil and high altitude produce exceptional body and a warm spice character that's hard to find in other origins. Fuller-bodied than most Central American coffees, with complexity that rewards attention.
