Decaf has a reputation problem. Most of it is made from low-quality beans — the reasoning being that if you're removing the caffeine, quality doesn't matter as much. We disagree. Our Peru Decaf starts with the same specialty-grade Peruvian beans as our regular Peru single origin, decaffeinated using the Swiss Water Process — a chemical-free method that removes 99.9% of caffeine while preserving the flavor compounds that make the coffee worth drinking. Same salted caramel sweetness. Same silky body. Zero compromise.

Why We Made This

Not every origin makes a great decaf. The decaffeination process affects flavor, and some origins lose more character than others. Peruvian coffee — with its mild acidity, natural sweetness, and smooth body — holds up exceptionally well to the Swiss Water Process. The salted caramel sweetness and chocolate notes that define our Peru single origin come through clearly even after decaffeination. We chose Peru because the cup deserved it.

Flavor Profile

  • Salted caramel sweetness — the defining note of our Peru, preserved through decaffeination
  • Milk chocolate — smooth and rich, a natural complement throughout
  • Mild acidity — gentle and soft, easy on the stomach
  • Silky, smooth body — one of the smoothest decafs available anywhere
  • Clean, pleasant finish — no bitterness, no harshness

The Swiss Water Process

A chemical-free decaffeination method that uses water and activated carbon filters to remove caffeine from the bean. No solvents. No chemicals. Just water, temperature, and time. The result is 99.9% caffeine-free coffee that retains significantly more original flavor than solvent-processed decaf — and is the cleanest decaffeination method available.

Ingredients

Single origin specialty Arabica coffee, Andes highlands, Peru. Washed process. Swiss Water Process decaffeinated. Medium roast. Roasted to order. Roasted fresh in Temecula, California — in most cases the same day it ships.

Yield: ~17–24 cups per 12oz bag. Larger sizes scale proportionally.

How to Brew

Drip (Recommended) — Consistent and reliable. Salted caramel sweetness comes through clearly. 1:15 ratio, medium grind.

Pour Over — Highlights the sweetness and clarity with precision. 1:15 ratio, water at 200°F, medium-fine grind. Bloom 45 seconds. Excellent black.

French Press — Silky body comes through fully without a paper filter. Coarse grind, 1:15 ratio, steep 4 minutes.

Evening ritual — The Peru Decaf is exceptional as an after-dinner or evening cup. Full flavor, no caffeine, no sleep disruption. The ritual without the consequence.

Best For

  • Evening coffee — full flavor without the caffeine keeping you up
  • Caffeine-sensitive drinkers who want to enjoy coffee without the effects
  • Late-night rituals — a great cup that respects your sleep
  • Anyone who loves coffee more than caffeine — because the ritual matters as much as the energy

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Swiss Water Process really chemical-free?
Yes — only water, temperature, and activated carbon filters. No solvents, no chemicals. The cleanest decaffeination method available.

How much caffeine is actually in decaf?
The Swiss Water Process removes 99.9% of caffeine. A standard cup contains approximately 2–5mg, compared to 80–120mg in a regular cup.

Does it taste different from regular Peru?
Decaffeination affects flavor to some degree — it's unavoidable. But the Swiss Water Process preserves significantly more flavor than solvent-based methods. Our Peru Decaf tastes remarkably close to our regular Peru single origin. Most people are surprised by how good it is.

Can I use it for espresso?
Yes — the smooth body and salted caramel sweetness make it a solid decaf espresso option. Works well straight or as the base for decaf lattes and cappuccinos.
